Lennox Sharks were like fish out of water in last nights game against the young Italo Stars team at Barrow Lane. After a half of settling in and testing their opponents out Rachael Guest opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a beautiful goal assisted by Cara Brice.
Riley McIntyre and Holly Doyle provided their typically strong trademark defence consistenly sheparding Sharks to the sidelines and leaving little opportunity for our GK to get a workout.
In the second half the girls went on the offence with 7 goals, and some beautiful finishes. Midway through the second half veteran GK Kelsey McSweeney was let out onto the park to have several shots on goal. Rachael Guest and Cara Brice both with hat-tricks for the night and goals also from Lily Evans and Amete Baume, for a final score of 8-1.
A late goal from the Sharks was much needed for their exhausted team, who despite being outclassed played in good spirits.
New blood Cassie Wilcox, Megan McGuiness and Ruby Gould-Whaling all performed admirably in their first regular season game, and are very welcome additions to the team.
Player(s) of the Match went to new Captain Olivia Collins, who was moved into several different positions over the course of the night and gave 100% for her team in all of them, providing several assists, and zero breathing room in the midfield for the Sharks. Rachael Guest for her hat-trick, and several top quality runs, with one solo run starting at halfway and ending in a finish from the 6 yard box.
Goals: Guest (28), Guest (47), Guest (51), Brice (58), Brice (62), Baume (82), Evans (86), Brice (89)
